  • About Ed's Weather Station
the originial instruments were becoming too hard to maintain November 2009 added live lightning capability with Boltek detection and NexStorm Software September 2009 added WXSIM to provide local forecasting abilities and a computer dedicated to forecasting and future projects January 2009 replaced Honeywell anemometer with a 1 wire equivalent and added nightime cloud monitor October 2008 added enhanced radar capabilities using GRLevel3 software July 2008 changed solar detection to a solar in a jar system June 2008 added soil temperature detectors at depths of 1 2 3 feet this was done to study how soil temperature changes as depth increases and as the seasons change this didn t work out well with the Honeywell system There was a software conflict I couldn t fix January 2008 Celebrated our first year of operation After the ice storm added a very large UPS that will hopefully allow me to safely shutdown the computers in case of long term power failure December 2007 Added dedicated local server to process weather instrumentation May 24 2007 Domain changed to www eds weather info May 12 2007 Leaf Wetness detector added April 21 2007 Solar radiation detector beta calibration testing April 7 2007 Replaced defective wind instruments The original one would fail high under low wind conditions causing 60 mph spikes on the graphs March 2007 Added a 1wire network lightning detector February 2007 Updated web site adding NOAA 7 day forecasts watches and warnings Also converted most pages to php for cross browser compatibility Mid January 2007 Put first web page up Early January 2007 Installed weather station hardware in the middle of an ice storm with the help of Curtis Future Plans I plan to add the following instruments and improvements to the station Developing a mobile friendly site Soil moisture detection Project Hardware
