  • Paper on improving science-policy interfaces draws on ALTER-Net experiences — ALTER-Net: Europe's ecosystem research network
between science and policy Many approaches for such interfaces exist the most recent being the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services IPBES A less prominent approach to interface science with policy consists of research projects directly linking with decision makers In this paper the authors present insights and recommendations on how to do this successfully highlighting among others the role of facilitating mutual learning and enhancing interface expertise in institutions This paper stems from the SPIRAL project Science Policy Interfaces for Biodiversity Research Action and Learning an interdisciplinary research project funded under the European Community s Seventh Framework Programme which involved several ALTER Net partners Reference Neßhöver C et al 2013 Improving the Science Policy Interface of Biodiversity Research Projects GAIA Ecological Perspectives for Science and Society 22 2 99 103 Link http www ingentaconnect com content oekom gaia 2013 00000022 00000002 art00008 Filed under science policy interface paper ALTER Net involvement Check out our sister website News Views for links to nature and biodiversity news stories polls and featured topics Nature in the news Sharing the planet Hen harrier conservation and grouse shooting Oct 22 2014 Public help needed to map fungus infecting invasive ladybird Oct 16 2014
